Marcel Horowitz, MS, MCHES, is the Community Nutrition & Health Advisor for the University of California Cooperative Extension (UCCE) program. She began her career in 1999 as a Staff Research Associate for the state EFNEP office. During her time there, she worked to develop theory-driven nutrition behavior interventions for low income audiences. She worked on the nationally award winning EatFit middle school curriculum, which was the first to incorporate computer technology into its educational approach. In 2005 she accepted a position as a county-based academic directing the local SNAP-Ed and 4-H Youth Development programs. During her career, she has developed materials for all ages and has worked to incorporate cutting edge research and best practices into the educational programs offered by Cooperative Extension. Her most recent curriculum, UP4it, was the first to specifically address childhood obesity prevention for elementary-aged students and uses a youth-directed approach to education. She chairs the California 4-H Healthy Living Leadership team, the SNAP-Ed/EFNEP Curriculum Committee and a Curriculum Development Workgroup. She has served as a member of the Extension Committee on Policy: Chronic Disease Prevention group, and the National 4-H Healthy Living team. Her passion lies in increasing the happiness of all Americans by promoting health and wellness in a variety of ways.
